I know it’s all the rage to use coupons now, but I’ve combed through stacks of them, and sure they save you money on brand name stuff, but it still is more expensive than the generic stuff! Is there something I’m missing?

You’re not missing anything. Many items I buy are generic and lower in price than the name brands even with a coupon. Coupons are great if your store doubles or tripples. Not so great if they don’t. One of my stores doubles on one day of the week but only up to .50 cents. Even with coupons I often save more with the generics. This is not ALWAYS the case but it often is.

There is a balance somewhere in the middle. I’ve gotten things free with coupons and even gotten money back, (overage to use on the rest of the bill), but you have to pay close attention to sale prices.

A can of name brand green beans goes for around $ 1.29 here. Generics that taste exactly the same go for .49 cents. I’d have to get a mighty good coupon before I’d bother with the name brand.
