The first Giant Eagle store was opened in 1918 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The store has long been a chain, and today it has places operating in Ohio, West Virginia, and Maryland in addition to its home state of Pennsylvania. Ninety years after its first store opened, the chain has been called one of the top 75 North American food stores around. Quite an achievement for humble origins.
