Marianas Supermarket

Marianas Supermarket is one of the most important companies serving both the Hispanic and non-Hispanic population of the US. It is a company that was established by the then young Hipolito Anaya, who was born and grew up in Jalisco, Mexico. Right from the time he came to the US, he has had many achievements, one of which is the success of Marianas Supermarket. With the assistance of his wife, Ana Maria, Hipolito was able to set up a small tortilla factory in the eastern part of Las Vegas, opening a 1,200 sq. ft. establishment in 1989 to produce and distribute tortillas of an American style but of Mexican flavor.

Ten years after the start of operations in the US, Hipolito and his wife made the decision to build a completely new establishment on a land area of about 9,200 sq. ft., dividing the new building into various departments: Bakery, Meat, La Cocina (deli), Produce and groceries. This was what many members of the Las Vegas Hispanic community had always been waiting for because the couple never deviated from the Hispanic concept of providing the original Mexican food the Mexicans in diaspora. The existence of the supermarket has also influenced the life of “full-blood” Americans in just not depending on “harmburgers” as the means of survival.

What you find at Marianas Supermarket is full of cheap, ripe items, most of them 25 cents a pound. Imagine being able to buy chicken nachos for about $4, taquitos for $3 and some change, and quesadilla for just $2.99 each. You are not likely to get those things cheaper elsewhere. You can have a perfect time with their carne asada, “tacos”, warm corn tortillas, cilantro, onions, etc. The carne asada will always solve your problems with hunger, and you will always find enough escapee meat left over to enjoy some other tacos. If you are really being beaten by hunger, you will always find combo plates with enough rice and beans.

Marianas Supermarket is a nice place to be and the prepared food is the best for some people. Three people can eat for less than $12. The supermarket also contains a nice condiment station to get whatever you like, including their sweets and “agua frescas”. The groceries are not too expensive, and the best idea is going to buy what you need when they are freshest. Going through the insert ads, you would discover when they bring in a new batch of groceries. The dairy deli section is wonderful as you can always find all kinds of Hispanic cheeses and sour cream. If you like, you can have the fruits mixed with their sour creams and/or cheeses.

The liquor section Marianas Supermarket is extensive for the lovers of tequila. Getting what you want may be a problem sometimes. However, the employees will always help you out, and they speak English fluently. The major problem the supermarket has had to struggle with is the growing competition from other smaller supermarkets just springing up in major US cities like Las Vegas. This is expected to continue for a long time and the only way for Marianas Supermarket to survive is to continue to distinguish itself with products of high quality at low prices.
