Money saving groceries?

Question by radioactivegirl: Money saving groceries?
overall, which place would I save the most money on groceries: Walgreen’s, CVS, Target, or Jewel Osco. I need cereal, milk, paper towels and a few other items. I am on a fixed budget and trying to save money as much as I can. Which one should I choose and why? I need help quick since I have to go soon. Thanks for all your help. P.s.- I don’t have a car so I use the train but my point is just focus on the aspect of saving money at these places and nothing else. Thanks again!!
Yea target has a whole grocery section and if CVS only carried medicines it would a whole lo smaller. I would go to Walmart but its half an hour away and I don’t have a car. The train doesn’t go near that area. Actually, I would prefer to go to a real grocery store but there isn’t one near by.(16 mins by train then a ten minute walk) The thing is I sometimes do buy store brands but these particular stores don’t make store brand cereal. I already went to Walgreen’s and ended up paying 4.50 for cereal! Also, sometimes store brands are not as good as the real thing. For instance, I bough cleaning wipes that were store brand and they are nothing like he clorox ones. They don’t have nearly as much cleaning alcohol on them and are whimsy and don’t clean as well. Same with store brand ajax.

buy house brands, not name brands whenever possible – they will usually save you more than using coupons -especially things like paper products – lots of cereals have identical “house brands” – cheerios, chex, raisn bran, etc – for 40% less -also watch for sales – I didn’t even know Target or CVS carries groceries
