New York Supermarkets
Even a partial map of Manhattan shown online with supermarkets indicated by icons shows you too many to count on both hands. That is, we are talking of a large number of supermarkets in New York City alone. If you take the whole state into consideration, you also have to contend with a number of other metropolitan areas, such as Buffalo, New York, for example. So, what about New York Supermarkets?
Well, they have to cater to a population of nearly 10 millions – if you take neighboring areas into consideration. If you are old enough, you may recall the slogan of Naked City – where each story told was just one of a possible 9,000,000. The population within the city limits may be less now, but that doesn’t change the fact that all the people living in the various boroughs of the city, which consist of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island need to eat. We are talking about a lot of New York supermarkets just in the city alone.
The city harbors a lot of people who make plenty of money and who live in the so-called good neighborhood. But there are areas where the people are not so well off or even rather poor by the city’s standards. In those areas, some food stores may even have gone out of business in recent years, which adds to the problems the city faces. In any case, it is important for a great city like New York – perhaps the most famous city in the world – to make sure that the people who live in it have a safe source for all the foods that they need to buy and live on.
In addition to all the supermarkets, the city has been operative in it, there are also the neighborhood outlets that you may see in movies that take place in the New York City. You know, those fresh fruit and vegetable stands that have their goods displayed in front of the store on the sidewalk. Very romantic to shop that day, too. But buying food in a New York supermarket is just the beginning of the larger picture.
The larger picture also involved the many delicatessens that you find either in a New York supermarket or as an independent outlet. Moving from there, you may also consider the restaurants located throughout Manhattan or any of the city’s other boroughs. This world-class city is a veritable cornucopia of great restaurants and lots of neighborhood specialty restaurants that cater to the large ethnic populations of the city. Whether you or your family hails from Italy or Ireland – or even from Poland or Hungary – you can find stores that carry the comfort foods of the old country or restaurants that specialize in the cooking you may have grown up with.
New York supermarkets are great places in which to do your shopping. And their names are legion, too. Food Emporium, Fairway Market, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods Market, or C-town Supermarket are just a few that may come to mind when you think of all the great supermarkets that you may find just in Manhattan – which is the part of New York City that’s perhaps the borough that gets the most attention and is the best known throughout the world.
