The Tesco name is an honored name in the United Kingdom. The store had it commencement there in 1919 where a certain Jack Cohen started the business and gave it the company’s current name after buying a shipment of tea from a certain T.E. Stockwell. He simply combined the first three initials of that name with the first two letters of his last name, thus coming up with Tesco. The rest, as we might say, is history.
Today Tesco Supermarket is famous for many things, in part for its vast store of groceries. Here, you can find all the fresh fruits and vegetables and salads & dips that you can imagine. But you don’t have to stop there, for the meat and seafood department is just around the corner, followed by the dairy case with its vast selection of eggs and cheeses. Moving right along you’ll also find prepared meals and desserts as well as such special counters as those run by your friendly butchers and your fishmongers.
Moving on to the famed Tesco Bakery takes you to your wide selection of white and brown breads and your bagels and rolls. But also to your crumpets and muffins and crescents or croissants (if you prefer the French name). The bakery also offers the finest Danishes and the best teacakes and scones that money can buy. Many of the products baked fresh here are of the organic variety, which is an added something to your diet if you are (and who isn’t these days?) interested in following eating habits that lead to better health.
The Food Cupboard is awash with great selections of pasta and rice, as well as pickles and olives and relishes & chutneys. If you are in the market for great antipasti, you are in the right place. Here, you can stock up on the best of the line for your next party, too. If you can think of it, you can probably find it in this section.
Interested in Food of the World? Here, you can find lots of items from Asia or India or those that are ever popular from Italy. Even Mexican food stuffs are available, but there is also the possibility of getting specialty groceries from, say, Poland or Morocco or items from the Mediterranean or North African regions. If you have a yen something exotic, you can certainly satisfy it at Tesco’s grocery.
Tesco’s also offers a lot of savings on a lot of items. They have the special big price-dip deals throughout the store. And you can even fill up your car for less here – petrol (as they call gas) in the U.K. is also available at Tesco. But you can find so much more here: wine and beer. Also clothing in addition to music and games and films and books.
The phone shop is the place where you may get your mobile or accessories for it if you already have one. But don’t overlook the great prices on your iPhone 4 with its dual-core A5 chip and its and its all-new 8MP camera and optics. As you can gather from all this, Tesco Supermarket is not a place you can ignore. If you live in the States but are planning an extended stay in the United Kingdom, you are sure to be highly satisfied with all you can find in these stores.
