Why do blueberries and raspberries, cost more in a supermarket (UK) than apples and other tree grown fruit?

Question by o_woodruff: Why do blueberries and raspberries, cost more in a supermarket (UK) than apples and other tree grown fruit?
As far as I see it, if both are locally grown (i.e eradicating the cost of transport from warmer climates) then there should be more product by volume, of bush grown fruit such as the various berries, to tree grown fruit. However a punnet of blueberries appears to cost more than the same wight of apples when I visit my local supermarket chain?
